The Report

Not a good day for Fabio Valenti or Harrow

Having matched the hosts for the first hour of this game, Harrow folded late on and finished a well-beaten side.

Fowler flashed an early header wide for Sutton, and at the other end Dunn held Michael Currie’s shot at the second attempt. Wayne Walters blocked a shot from Bolt, and Dean Marney made an important clearing header from Hodges’ header. Davis Haule was rightly booked for a reckless challenge, but the inconsistent Mr Gagen then let off Sutton’s Beale for a nasty foul that left Chris Jones needing treatment, before ignoring altogether Watson’s crude tackle on Wayne Walters that saw the Borough midfield anchor fail to reappear after half time.

Late in the first half, a nice interchange between Richard Clarke and Haule sent Currie through on the right, and his angled drive forced a good save from Dunn. Sutton closed the period with a Watson header past the post and a Hollands shot that was blocked.

The second half began with a Mekel Hackett header following a surging run from Phil Gridelet, and a Haule shot wide after Adam Everitt’s long throw had caused alarm in the home defence. For the home side, Fowler was inches away from turning in Watson’s cross.

After 61 minutes, Richard Goddard shot past the post following Chris Jones’s corner. The resulting goal-kick was headed on and Fowler ran beyond the Borough defence to beat Andy Pape.

The goal lifted the hosts, and Fowler brought a good save from Pape before the lead doubled in the 72nd minute. Hodges was quickest to react to Corbett’s inswinging free-kick from the left and bulleted a header past Pape. Goddard set up Currie for a shot that was blocked, but after 81 minutes Watson’s volley from Bolt’s pass made it 3-0.

Harrow had three late attempts on goal, a Fabio Valenti shot that deflected wide, a Currie effort that brushed the post, and a Hackett shot past the post from Goddard’s knock-down. But it was too little, too late. Harrow need to get this defeat out of their system and return to the form of the past week when they entertain Braintree Ton this Saturday at Earlsmead.
