Jimmy
Aggrey - consolation goal |
|
| Harrow’s
seven match away league unbeaten
run ended on the Essex coast
on Tuesday night, but there
was no disgrace in going down
narrowly to a Canvey team that
looks as if it will again figure
in the title race.
Borough started very brightly.
After 5 minutes Eseyas Yhdego
beat a defender and forced Potter
to save his shot. Moments later,
Davis Haule laid the ball to
Yhdego, who hit a 20 yard angled
shot that Potter did well to
turn over the bar. This produced
a series of corners, one of
which saw Yhdego’s kick
met by a powerful header from
Dean Marney that beat Potter,
who was rescued by a header
off the line by Kennedy.
The home side then began to
find their feet, and Keita Karamoko
saved well from Forbes before
Boylan hit a shot across the
goal. Canvey took the lead in
the 14th minute. A Pat Gavin
pass stuck in surface water,
and Canvey grabbed possession
and swarmed into the Borough
penalty area. Karamoko kept
out one effort, but Jones followed
up to force the ball in.
Harrow pressed for an equaliser.
Haule shot just wide and Wayne
Walters’ goalbound effort
was deflected past the post.
For the hosts, Boylan shot wide
and Karamoko saved from Gregory.
In the 38th minute, Yhdego laid
the ball wide for Daniel Dyer
to run on and hit a fierce shot
that beat Potter but went the
wrong side of the far upright.
Canvey dominated the play in
the opening part of the second
period. Borough’s defensive
line seemed to be sitting too
far up the field and thereby
allowing Canvey to play balls
into the spaces behind them.
Karamoko made two good saves
and then Dyer cleared off the
line when he fumbled a cross.
Fabio Valenti, on as a Borough
substitute, was close to scoring
with his first touch, a 20-yarder
that went inches wide. But within
three minutes of that, Canvey
doubled their lead in the 72nd
minute. Parmenter got round
the back of Marney on the Borough
right and crossed for Minton
to ram home. Karamoko then saved
from Gregory and twice from
Parmenter.
Harrow pulled a goal back in
the 85th minute, when a good
left-wing build-up finished
with Darty Brown finding Jimmy
Aggrey, whose shot from the
edge of the box took a slight
deflection off Canvey’s
Ward on its way into the net.
Borough had one golden chance
to equalise in the remainder
of the game. Valenti lofted
a clever pass over the home
defence, but Robert Charles’s
acrobatic effort to make contact
missed the ball.
