| Second-best
for much of this game, Harrow
nevertheless found themselves
in the lead with eleven minutes
to go. But, looking back at
the balance of play, Edwin Stein
and his men will probably feel
pretty happy to have gained
a point from this fixture.
The visitors started with a
3rd minute effort from Maskell,
a shot that forced a save from
Keita Karamoko. Borough responded
with Robert Charles skipping
round McGrath on the left, cutting
into the box, and forcing Day
to save. Fabio Valenti’s
follow-up effort was blocked.
Free-kicks from Valenti and
Tobi Jinadu were off-target,
and at the other end good defending
by Jimmy Aggrey closed out Maskell
after Baker’s pass had
sent him clear.
Aylesbury began to dominate,
with Wayne Walters making an
important clearing header, Ibe’s
near-post flick forcing a save
from Karamoko, and then the
same player’s clever turn
and shot went just wide. Baker
had a shot saved and Adam Everitt
rescued Harrow when an Aylesbury
goal looked likely.
Despite the visitors’
dominance, it was Harrow who
went in front after 36 minutes.
Valenti hit a vicious shot from
the right-hand side of the penalty
area, which deflected off a
defender on the six-yard line.
Day showed astonishing reactions
to keep the ball out, but was
powerless to stop Davis Haule
from hammering in the rebound.
The pattern of Aylesbury dominance
continued, with Campion heading
wide and a one-two between Ibe
and Maskell leaving the former
bearing down on Karamoko, who
pulled off a great save. Harrow
did go close just before the
break when a corner was cleared
to Kevin McKenna, just outside
the box, and his 25-yard shot
was pushed over the bar by Day.
After a quiet opening to the
second half, Karamoko foiled
Ibe again, while at the other
end McKenna’s goalbound
effort was blocked. No-one could
deny that Aylesbury deserved
an equaliser, and it arrived
in the 69th minute. Aggrey blocked
a visiting free-kick, but the
ball fell to Horner on the edge
of the box, and his 20-yard
shot beat Karamoko and nestled
in the corner of the net.
Harrow fans might have expected
the last 20 minutes to see a
home rearguard action, but it
was Borough who regained the
lead after 76 minutes. A long
punt upfield was chased by Haule
and Aylesbury skipper Williams
and, under pressure, the visiting
full-back lobbed the ball over
Day and into his own net.
This time it only took Aylesbury
three minutes to equalise. Substitute
Joe beat Everitt all ends up
out on the right, and his cross
was headed home by the unmarked
Baker.
Borough substitute Eseyas Yhdego
might have earned the hosts
a late penalty, when his run
into the penalty area drew a
rash challenge from a Ducks
defender, but referee Batchelor,
who had an excellent game and
proved that cards do not need
to be waved around to keep control
of a match, waved play on.
