Perry
Norman - first goal for
Harrow |
|
| A goal from
both the brothers Haule, plus
a 35 yard effort from defender
Perry Norman, saw Harrow comfortably
through to the 4th round of
the league cup competition in
chilly Essex on Tuesday night.
Braintree had already spurned
an early chance when Harrow
took the lead in the 11th minute.
Fabio Valenti sent Daniel Dyer
away on the right. His cross
was mis-controlled by Braintree’s
Girling, and Brian Haule was
on hand to crash the ball into
the top corner of the net for
his first goal for Borough.
Cousins volleyed Goode’s
cross over when well placed,
but Harrow were playing the
better football and were close
to doubling their lead when
first Wayne Walters’ shot
was saved by Morden, and then
Brian Haule’s effort was
palmed away. A second goal looked
on the cards, and it arrived
after 33 minutes. Valenti’s
corner was cleared by the home
defence but Perry Norman returned
the ball into the goal from
fully 35 yards for a terrific
goal. It was also a first Harrow
goal for him.
Goal efforts were exchanged
at the end of the half. Cousins
crossed for Simpson to fire
over the bar, Kevin McKenna’s
strike forced a diving save
from Morden, and Darty Brown
headed a home effort off the
line.
Morden saved again from Brian
Haule at the start of the second
period, before Haule fell heavily
when challenging for a high
ball. He was gingerly lifted
onto a stretcher and departed
the field, to be replaced by
brother Davis.
Noble dispossessed Dean Marney
and shot past the post, before
Braintree pulled back a goal
in the 83rd minute. McKenna
gave the ball away in midfield,
Noble broke on the right and
crossed for Simpson to volley
in off the bar at the near post.
Any Harrow worries were short-lived,
however, for two minutes later,
Valenti’s short corner
saw substitute Jimmie Berry
hit a pin-point left-wing cross
for Davis Haule to bullet a
header past Morden and seal
the win.
