Robert
Charles - welcome return
to the side following
injury |
|
| After Saturday’s
poor display at Grays, Harrow
boss Edwin Stein rang the changes.
Out went goalkeeper Keita Karamoko,
and defenders Dean Marney, Richard
Clarke and Paul Symes. In came
Matthew Ferguson between the
sticks, Perry Norman returned
from suspension, and Eseyas
Yhdego started up front allowing
Richard Goddard to drop back
to central defence.
Borough started brightly and
could have been two up in five
minutes. First, Yhdego’s
shot spun off a defender and
went inches wide, and then the
same player dallied too long
with the keeper beaten by his
control, allowing a defender
to block. In Enfield’s
first threat on goal, Reddington
fired over after the ball was
headed down to him.
The all-important goal arrived
after 25 minutes. Daniel Dyer,
also recalled to the team, broke
past a defender and was brought
down just outside the penalty
area. Yhdego teed up the free-kick
for Everitt to hit a 20-yarder
past Palmer’s right hand
into the corner of the net.
Harrow consolidated on their
lead in the rest of the half,
with Wayne Walters making a
fine interception when the home
side threatened for the only
time. It was a different story
in the second half, which saw
an increasing Harrow rearguard
action. Kevin McKenna went off
injured at the interval, and
one minute into the second half
Clemente Lopez had to make a
fine interception at the far
post to stop a forward turning
in Braithwaite’s cross.
Perry Norman was then the second
Borough casualty, nine minutes
into the second half, departing
on a stretcher after attempting
to stop a run into the box that
ended with a great clearance
by Everitt.
Harrow threats were confined
to breakaways. Pat Gavin, who
worked hard all night, might
have done better when Lopez’s
left-wing cross picked him out.
He elected to try an acrobatic
volley on which he didn’t
get a good connection.
Ferguson handled the ball well
until the 75th minute, when
he dropped a long throw under
pressure, one of his defensive
colleagues rescuing him with
a clearance off the line. Mark-Dennis
was then allowed a free run
on to a corner, and Borough
were relieved to see his shot
go wide.
In the 85th minute Harrow should
have made the game safe. Robert
Charles, making a very welcome
return having been out injured
since Boxing Day, broke upfield
but was blocked by a defender.
The ball broke to Dyer, 25 yards
out with an empty goal to aim
at, but he steered his shot
yards past the post.
As the game moved into six
minutes of stoppage time, Harrow
had a big let-off when another
long throw was only half cleared,
and Lee Richardson hit the bar
with a 20-yard shot. Ferguson
then made a good save at Traore’s
feet, before the whistle blew
on Borough’s first away
league win for four months.
