Slough Town 4:1 Harrow Borough
Sygnus Capital League | Wednesday 11 th September 2002

Boro’ slipped to their second successive defeat in a highly entertaining and competitive match against a strong Slough Town side at Wexham Park on Wednesday.

The difference between the two sides was really in the goalkeeping department where the visitors had the highly experienced Adrian Blake who pulled off a string of magnificent saves to deny the Boro’s attack.

In a game that moved rapidly from end to end Boro’ went close through efforts from Renner-Thomas and Fitzsimon before the home side took the lead on 22 minutes when Stephen Hale headed in a left wing cross from close range.

Richard Goddard levelled the scores in the 43rd minute when he headed home a Ross Fitzsimon left wing corner.

Boro’ began the second half in the ascendancy but again and again they were denied by Blake. As the game began to get stretched Stephen Hale restored Slough’s lead with a close range effort on 65 minutes.

Boro’ pushed forward in search of the equaliser but were caught on the break when Powell was forced to concede a free-kick. Paul Ellis firing home passed the hapless Brendan Moore. As Boro’ began to tire Alvin Bubb increased their discomfort by firing home the 4th for the home side.

The final result 4-1 would have been disappointing to the Boro’ faithful, but there were a number of performances which would have given encouragement from a first team perspective with Pat Gavin, now happily returned to fitness following his summer operation, and Kevin Powell a new signing from Wycombe Wanderers looking particularly impressive.

Harrow Borough: Moore; Williams (sub Ngopwani), Lopez, Ellis, Renner-Thomas, Goddard, Fitzsimon, Darty Brown, Gavin (sub O’Neill), Green (sub Barima), Powell
Subs not used Guthrie, Brockett
