| Conference side Farnborough
Town brought a strong side to Earlsmead for this
Capital League encounter and duly went away with
the points following a competent display against
a willing Boro' side.
The game was tragically delayed for 30 minutes
following a serious head injury incurred by a
Farnborough player, who fell awkwardly to the
ground following a clash of heads. The player
could not be moved until an ambulance crew had
attended and dealt with the situation.
After the delay Farnborough took the game by
the scruff of the neck and goals from Christian
Lee and Joff Vansittart (two) saw the visitors
in command by half time.
Boro' fought back bravely in the second half
but Vansittart completed his hat trick on 75 minutes
before Kevin Powell clawed one back following
a right wing corner from Jimmie Berry.
Boro' could have reduced the arrears further
late on in the game but Jimmie Berry missed his
kick when faced with an empty goal after visiting
'keeper Osborn had lost possession. Then Butterworth
cleared twice off the goal line from Gabby Williams
with Osborn well beaten on both occasions.
Overall a fair result, but Boro' have a number
of positives that they could take out of the game.
An injury to Perry Norman late on in the game,
however, would not have pleased watching manager,
Edwin Stein.
