| Boro’
opened their pre-season build-up
with a convincing 3-0 win over
Ryman Division 1 North opponents
Waltham Forest (formerly Leyton-Pennant)
at Earlsmead on Saturday.
For this encounter Boro’
manager Edwin Stein used 24
players including several new
faces against a side who are
desperate for success this campaign
and who are now managed by former
Boro’ Assistant Manager,
Hakan Heyrettin.
Prominent among the “new”
faces was former Boro’
goalkeeping favourite David
Hook who has certainly lost
nothing of his undoubted ability
during his two years at Hendon
and who is eager to add to the
400 appearances he made during
his first stint at Earlsmead.
Among other debutantes were
Luke Dockwray who has made the
short journey from Wembley and
the highly rated Steve Dogbe
who has joined Boro’ after
a season with Chesham United.
Playing with the aid of a stiff
breeze the visitors, who already
have one game under their belt,
started the stronger and early
on David Hook was called upon
to show his alertness in the
Boro’ goal as former Boro’
favourite John Lawford sort
to open his account with his
new club. Tyrone Hercules seemed
pre-disposed to tumble on the
edge of the Boro’ box
and the visitors were able to
create pressure on the home
defence with set piece free-kicks.
The two sides remained deadlocked
at 0-0 until the start of the
second half when a much changed
Boro’ side began to seize
the initiative.
Debutant Kevin Chakadza opened
the scoring on 48 minutes with
a fine left-footed lob after
good work down Boro’ left
flank.
It was 2-0 on 70 minutes when
Pat Gavin headed home powerfully
at the far post after fine work
and a pin point cross by Fabio
Valenti.
Eseyas Yhdego completed the
scoring with 2 minutes remaining
as he wrong-footed the visiting
‘keeper and hit home from
close range.
All in all a satisfactory start
for Edwin Stein as he continues
his preparation for the forthcoming
campaign.
