| Boro' won this
highly competitive friendly
against one of the pre season
favourites for the Ryman League
Division 1 (South) title at
Earlsmead on Tuesday.
Manager Edwin Stein used 18
players in this fixture, handing
a debut to Australian striker,
Vino Gopalan and givng Brian
Haule his first 1st Team run
out this pre season.
The visitors started the stronger
and Boro' were under pressure
early on. It was this pressure
that lead to them taking the
lead after 10 minutes when Wayne
Walters was adjudged to have
bundled over Kieron Adams in
the box. Matt Brady had the
resultant spot kick blocked
by David Hook, but followed
up to put the loose ball into
the net. 0-1.
Boro' got into the game and
the pace of Daniel Dyer and
Brian Haule, who had replaced
trialist Gopalan, down the right
began to put the visitors under
intense pressure. Both players
were guilty of missing the target
when well placed and when Dyer
was put through with only Chuck
Martini to beat his low shot
was beaten away by the ex-Wycombe
Wanderers 'keeper.
Boro' made several changes
to the playing personnel for
the second half, but it took
a special effort from Wayne
Walters on 63 minutes to level
the scorers. Picking the ball
up in midfield he hit a powerful
shot from all of 30 yards which
beat Martini for pace as it
flew into the back of the net.
1-1.
Edwin Stein immediately withdrew
Walters and Clemente Lopez,
replacing them with Eseyas Yhdego
and Robert Charles, and it was
these two who edged Boro' in
front within 2 minutes - Yhdego
crossing from wide on the left
for Charles find the net after
Martini failed to hold on to
a fine header. 2-1.
The game became a little bit
heated once Boro' had taken
the lead and Referee Osborne
had to work overtime to keep
control of the situation, as
the tackles flew in against
the lively Yhdego.
The result a third win for
Boro' to add to their draw at
Edgware as the pre-season preparations
stepped up a gear.
