| Boro' slipped
to their first defeat of the
Pre-Season campaign when they
suffered a 1-3 home reverse
to Ryman League Division 1 (South)
Championship hopefuls Staines
Town on Tuesday.
As is the norm for these games
both managers used 20 players
so the game was at times disjointed.
Boro' who will be without both
Keita Karamoko and David Hook
for the opening league encounter
with Hitchin Town on Saturday
week gave a trial in the second
half to Sam Mazurek, but it
was not a success. Eddies Stein
also handed a debut to former
Maidenhead United defender Chris
Elsegood.
Boro' started the stronger
and Brian Haule almost opened
the scoring but his lob hit
the crossbar and bounced to
safety.
Strong running from Brian Haule
and Charles was causing the
visitors some difficulty but
they took lead on the stroke
of half time. Gaining a free-kick
wide on the right, Phil Dicker
crossed for Marcus CAMPBELL
to opening the scoring following
a deflection which talk the
ball away from David Hook.
Within 3 minutes of the re-start
Boro' were on level terms when
a Robert CHARLES lob gave 'keeper
Matt Lovett no chance.
Stuart Elliott had a bullett
head well saved by Lovett who
was then called upon to save
brilliantly from Pat Gavin following
a quick free-kick.
Staines re-took the lead on
80 minutes when Marcus CAMPBELL
was put clear of the home defence
to give debutante 'keeper Mazurek
little chance.
CAMPBELL completed his hat
trick on 88 minutes when Mazurek
fumbled a cross and the visiting
striker was on hand to touch
the ball over the line.
Altogether a disappointing
result from manager Edwin Stein's
perspective as he seeks to fine-tune
his side for the kick off on
16th August. |
