| After the great
display against Bedford on Tuesday,
Borough took on their opponents
from two Divisions below them
with plenty of confidence. But
they forgot how battling and
application had been the foundation
of the victory against Bedford,
played well only in short bursts,
and had to settle for a replay
in Buckinghamshire this Tuesday.
Borough attacked from the kick-off,
but got a big shock after 13
minutes. Sepede wriggled round
Perry Norman who got in a tangle
and brought him down. Keita
Karamoko flung himself to his
right to save Bowler’s
penalty, before he and his defenders
ensured the ball stayed out
in the ensuing scramble.
Harrow burst into life midway
through the first half. In the
19th minute Robert Charles broke
clear on the left, and crossed
to Fabio Valenti. Keeper Knott
took the speed off his shot,
and Clarke cleared the ball
as it trickled towards the line.
Valenti then broke on the right
and when Heywood fluffed the
clearance of his cross, Charles
spun and forced Knott to save.
Another Valenti-Charles interchange
set up Danny Moore for a 15-yard
shot that Knott turned round
the post. The worst miss of
the half came on the half-hour.
Charles crossed for Valenti,
eight yards out with just Knott
to beat, but his side-foot effort
went straight at Knott.
Bowler’s early second-half
cross was turned over the bar
by Karamoko, and when Wayne
Walters slipped, Bowler put
another effort across the goal.
Robbie Rix was withdrawn after
a disappointing full debut and
David Ocquaye’s introduction
saw Harrow go to a three-man
attack. Ross Fitzsimon’s
deep corner was headed back
across goal by Valenti and Richard
Goddard’s header was saved.
In the 69th minute, Charles
set up a golden chance for Valenti
but he mishit his shot from
inside the six-yard box.
Harrow pressure grew as Flackwell
tired in the last twenty minutes.
Kevin McKenna’s 30-yard
free-kick slipped through Knott’s
hands and came back off the
post. In the 80th minute Abdulai
Yoki beat a defender on the
right and drove a low shot that
Knott could only parry. The
ball fell to Valenti, three
yards out, but he blasted it
over the bar. A minute later
Clemente Lopez hit a dipping
20-yard shot that crashed against
the crossbar.
The final action of the game
saw Yoki’s pass send Ocquaye
clear. He rounded Knott but
took a fatal second to steady
himself. This allowed Leigh
Elliott the time to get back
and clear the resulting shot
off the line.
Borough did quite enough to
suggest they will still win
this tie when the replay takes
place at Wilks Park on Tuesday.
But manager Edwin Stein will
expect to see a greater level
of application throughout the
game, combined with a far better
standard of finishing.
