Having
previously reserved their better Capital League results for away
games this season, Boro' made good use of the greater amount of
possession to complete the league double over Croydon last Wednesday.
Sponsored
by Martin Fisher Estate Agents, Boro' had to made do without Vladimir
Gusavac and Ole-Christian Braathen, who have both returned overseas,
yet they were to move into a six minute lead that calmed any nerves,
writes Tony Booth. Williams and O'Brien began the move that saw
Mark Cooper's through ball sending Kelechi DURU running clear
of the visiting defence, whence he netted a 20 yard drive.
With
Cooper in midfield, Boro's line up bore an unusual appearance
but they went on to smoothly double their lead after 29 minutes.
Duru's cross had snow on it as it descended from the skies and
though Oliver PETERSEN unsurprisingly appeared disinclined to
head the 'cannonball', Croydon's 'keeper made a hash of catching
it and the ball fell kindly for the Boro' striker to stab the
ball home!
A
pacy run from Gabby Williams threatened the visiting goal until
he overran the ball before Croydon at last posed some questions
themselves, Jody Elliott making a good diving save and Aiden O'Brien
clearing off the Boro' goalline. Boro' switched formation after
the interval and they continued to have the better of exchanges.
Williams shot wide and Duru had an effort cleared off the line.
A flurry of substitutions meant that the game lost a bit of cohesion,
but Harrow moved three goals clear with 8 minutes left.
From
another Duru cross, Petersen spooned a shot off target but O'BRIEN
showed commendable foresight to retrieve the ball wide of goal
and he turned a defender before netting an angled shot. When Duru
left the pitch injured, Boro' had to finish with ten men. Croydon
gained some consolation in the 84th minute, when COLEMAN netted
a shot but overall it was a satisfactory night for John Margerrison's
team.
