On
a night when driving rain and a swirling wind made 'the beautiful
game' difficult to replicate, Harrow Boro's Capital League side
were edged out by a single goal on Wednesday night.
Facing
a team that included six members of Slough's Ryman League squad
from the previous Saturday, Boro's youngsters were not outshone,
forcing their more experienced opponents to defend in depth. With
skipper Danny Nwaokolo and John Hurlock the only established first
team squad members in Boro's side, it appeared they would face a
severely uphill task when the teams were announced.
Moreover,
the visitors included Junior Harvey in their line up, despite the
fact he was still registered with Harrow, having played for the
Boro' in their only other home Capital League game this season!
Ole-Christian Braathen played a major part in keeping the Slough
side at bay, making a string of fine saves, which inspired his young
colleagues to fully test the visitors.
Not
least among Boro's goal efforts was one from Perry Norman, an audacious
free kick from inside the centre circle, which beat the advancing
'keeper, only to drift just over the crossbar. At the other end,
Alex Tomovic cleared a close range effort off the home line, with
the goalless scoreline being ensured by Boro's Norwegian goalkeeper's
heroics.
Slough
were seemingly unhappy at their established players failing to steamroller
the hosts, such that three half time 'Rebels' substitutions took
place. Within 4 minutes, Slough did score the only goal - a scrambled
affair that saw DEANER's shoulder/header deflect past Braathen from
a Marshall cross.
From
then on, the visitors were content to let Boro' monopolise possession,
whilst massing in defence. They relied on breakaways, only to find
Braathen in secure form, diving to make several impressive saves.
At the other end, Boro's efforts deserved an equaliser - but neither
Petersen, Marwa or Petersen were able to net.
