Basingstoke visited Earlsmead for the second time in five days and
their Capital League side followed up their Ryman team's victory
over Harrow.
Once
more, it was a lack of forward power that cost Boro' dear, writes
Tony Booth. Having won their initial Capital match last week, 3-1
at Aylesbury, Harrow were looking to establish a good foundation
for a follow up to last season's runners up finish. However, 'Stoke
once more proved a well organised outfit and they fully deserved
their win. Gusavac and Harvey both went close in the opening minutes,
but a neat piece of skill saw the visitors go ahead after 16 minutes.
KEELEY accurately sent a 20 yard chip shot over Norwegian 'keeper
Braathen, which crept inside the far post.
Willock
and Harvey twice put the Hampshire defence in dire straits but,
like a Roberts effort just before the break, none could find the
net. The second half pattern was similar, with Harrow having plenty
of possession but little by way of luck in front of goal. The result
was settled in the 65th minute, when HOWES drove a fierce shot in
off the crossbar and it took good saves by the home 'keeper to keep
the deficit to two goals at the close.
