Harrow
cruised through to the Third Round of the FA Trophy with a fine
win against Dr Martens Premier Division opponents.
Below
par for some of the game, Borough nevertheless put on a show for
20 minutes in the second half that was on a par with any of their
displays so far this season. The Earlsmead surface had passed a
morning inspection and was a little heavy in places.
The
visitors had arrived with a long injury list, added to when the
former West Ham and Blackburn midfielder Matt Holmes picked up an
injury in the pre-match warm-up. Prior to the game, a minute's silence
was observed for Borough Life Vice President Harry Dier, who had
passed away a week earlier.
Dorchester
enjoyed the best of the early exchanges and Mark Cooper had to win
an important 4th minute tackle to prevent a shot on goal, before
Andy Rose headed clear Groves's cross. At the other end, Rose shot
wide after a good build up, and McIver was adjudged not to have
handled Mark Xavier's cross intentionally. Pat Gavin broke clear
in the 16th minute and saw his cross hacked away from Xavier's toe.

Four
minutes later, a neat exchange ended with Gavin's shot deflected
past the post. Derek Payne shot wide after an Otis Roberts lay-off,
and Nicolaj Lund's attempt to head over Ormerod only found the visiting
keeper's arms. David Hook tipped away a visiting effort, McIver
headed over the bar, and Emond Protain deflected Sullivan's shot
over the bar.
The
first goal was going to be important and it arrived for Harrow in
the 41st minute. A good move ended with Xavier laying the ball back
to Payne. His 18-yard shot took a deflection on its way past Ormerod.
Dorchester tried to strike back immediately and when Cooper conceded
a free-kick, Hook was lucky to fall on the ball when he spilt the
initial effort.
The
second half opened with some jittery home defending and Dorchester
briefly threatened an equaliser, before Harrow took total control
of the game and enjoyed a purple patch. A desperate tackle prevented
a Gavin shot when Xavier broke free on the right and crossed. Payne
then freed Roberts who broke into the box only for Ormerod to turn
his shot round the post.
Ormerod
then turned Protain's cross over the bar. Lund, Payne and Dwayne
Lewis were by now running the midfield and when Lund played a one-two
and cut the ball back from the byline, it took a goalline clearance
to stop Payne scoring his second. Dorchester broke upfield from
this situation and Rose got back to make an important headed clearance.

Pat
Gavin had to leave the field after a clash of heads in the 64th
minute and, without a recognised striker on the bench, there were
briefly worries that Harrow's dominance might end. However, these
were unfounded as John Hurlock came on and immediately got into
the thick of the action.
In
the 69th minute, a Dorchester hand seemed to block his effort, and
Xavier's follow up was also blocked, after Roberts got free on the
right. Borough penalty appeals were quickly silenced, as the loose
ball was crossed by Rose for Xavier to net at the far post.
Xavier
then set up Hurlock who cut inside and fired over, before the third
goal came in the 72nd minute. The lively Xavier held off three defenders
to play the ball to Roberts, whose cross was met by a brilliant
Hurlock overhead kick that gave Ormerod no chance. Dorchester hit
the post with a late effort to get a consolation, but Harrow ended
the game strongly, substitute Kelechi Duru seeing his goal-bound
shot blocked.
