Harrow Borough 2
Farnborough Town 3

Farnborough's relentless drive back to the Conference continued with this win although they were made to work extremely hard by a battling Harrow side who can consider themselves unlucky not to have got something from this game.

Pat Gavin gets ahead of the Farnborough defence

The very heavy pitch was not made for pretty football and the first half was a relatively sedate affair enlivened only by Farnborough's opening goal scored after 14 minutes.

Mickey Warner's cross from the right was headed down by Ian Baird and Lenny Piper drove in from close range.

The game came to life in the 56th minute when Stuart MacKenzie in the Farnborough goal dropped a straightforward cross from Carl Levene and, after a melee, Andy Rose forced the ball in for Harrow's equaliser.

Four minutes later Farnborough went ahead again, a free kick from the left found Darren Annon with space on the edge of the box and he drove his shot into the corner.

Harrow were soon back level again when in the 73rd minute Paul Scott hammered the ball beyond MacKenzie.

Farnborough responded positively again and took the lead for the third time in the 80th minute.

A long ball out from the back caught Harrow's defence square and Gary Crawshaw beat David Hook with a confident finish.

Farnborough almost added a fourth goal in the closing minutes when Scott Corbett hit the post.

Farnborough lying top and sixteen points clear came full of confidence to Harrow who were languishing in the relegation zone again. The outcome looked ominous but Harrow had won during the week and the ground although passed playable looked heavy and would cut up easily. The visitors from the start took the offensive and Gregory's run to the corner and inswinger into the crowded goal mouth was well taken by Dave Hook.

Then from a free kick Dack's lob into the penalty area was partly cleared to Corbett who's powerful shot back thru the crowded area just went wide of the far upright .Farnborough pressure told and Warners cross was collected by Crawshaw onto Lenny Piper who slid the ball in from close range on 14 minutes. Harrow responded with Paul Scott gathering the ball, sidestepping a tackle and passing to Pat Gavin in a central position 20 yards out who's shot just missed the upright. From a free kick Andy Rose swung the ball into the middle where Scott blazed the ball over the Town's crossbar. Good work between Scott and then Tony Fentanelle saw his shot from 15 yards sail narrowly over the bar.

Next in a goalmouth incident Fabio Valenti's shot hit Mackenzie in the Town goal and came back out at the advancing Valenti's body and looped back over the keepers head and just over the crossbar. From the restart the pernickety referee continued to book players harshly considering the heavy conditions and four quickly went into the book. The game was passionate and from a free kick into the visitors area Gavin headed over. Fontanelle then beat 3 defenders on the right flank and swung the ball into the middle where Scott surrounded by defenders backheeled the ball hard towards the goal but a defender just cleared off his line.

On 65 minutes a Harrow free kick inside the visitors half saw Carl Levene lob the ball into the goalmouth where the keeper mishandled and from the resultant scramble Andy Rose forced in from 3 yards for the equaliser. Town regrouped and stiffened their midfield, with a substitution and took the game to Harrow. Rose scrambled the ball away after Hook was beaten and then from a free kick the ball found Annon 20 yards out on the right flank who's powerful shot went into the near corner past the unsighted Hook.

Within minutes Harrow responded with the best worked goal when Levene's run along the right wing saw him over hit a cross which Gavin headed brilliantly back into the area and Scott volleyed in from 5 yards. The game continued to resemble a cuptie with end to end frantic play and from yet another free kick the ball found Town's Crawshaw who's 20 yard piledriver found the net.

Harrow responded and defender Joe Lyons picking the ball up from inside his own half beat 3 players but his shot sailed over the crossbar. And then from a Harrow free kick the ball was lobbed into the penalty area and in the ensuing scramble Jon-Barrie Bates with a good chance from 8 yards out but losing his balance just put the ball over the bar. In the closing minute Towns attack pulled the ball back out to Corbett who's drive hit the Harrow post. A thoroughly entertaining game which no team deserved to lose.
