Harrow Borough 7
Ruislip Manor 0

Harrow Borough reached the quarter final of the county cup with a comfortable 7-0 victory over Ruislip Manor at Earlsmead. They now face Yeading at home, probably on 13 February.

Boro's scorers were John Hurlock 2, Mark Cooper, Otis Roberts, Marcus Richardson, Hakan Hayrettin and Steve Barnes. Conditions on were vastly different to the previous evening, when Boro's Capital League side lost 1-2 at St Albans ( scorer Keith Newby ( penalty ) ) in freezing temperatures.

These had been replaced by torrential rain, as Manor's South Midlands League side played David to Harrow's Goliath. On this occasion, the giant was rarely troubled, as the hosts completed their biggest win for two years. Postponed from the previous week, the match saw Boro' take the field without the injured Xavier and suspended Everitt, but strengthened by the return of Cooper and Rose. Once Harrow had netted twice in the opening five minutes, it was more a question of avoiding injury than defeat for the remainder of the game.

An adventurous run by Marc Walsh tempted the visiting 'keeper out to the edge of his box and when Pat Gavin unselfishly turned the ball back rather than shooting, John HURLOCK chipped in from 25 yards. Two minutes later, a Barnes corner saw Richardson and Walsh have efforts blocked before skipper Mark COOPER headed in from close range. Boro' proceeded to move forward in a continuous stream of attacks, both Richardson and Roberts twice going close.

It was only a matter of time until goal number three would arrive, and in the 25th minute, Dwayne Lewis set up HURLOCK for a 20 yard shot that was deflected and wrongfooted the 'keeper as it rolled into the net. A series of goal chances continued to be served up, with Harrow's slick passing and superior fitness created openings. Gavin, three times, Barnes, Rose and Richardson could have hit the net but were thwarted by Felton's saves, or narrowly off target. In reply, Manor had managed a handful of forward moves, Knight being the apex of their attack. He went close in the 43rd minute, but his 20 yard chip shot rebounded off the crossbar straight back into James Robinson's hands!

Manor replaced their 'keeper at half time, but even he was given little respite, with Gavin volleying just over, before Boro' went four up after 54 minutes. Richardson chased a wayward backpass and though the goalie rushed out of his area to clear, the ball fell to Otis ROBERTS, who calmly controlled it before advancing and sublimely chipping a 35 yarder over the retreating custodian! Rose was then denied but Marcus RICHARDSON found the net in the 58th minute, heading in at the far post after Hayrettin set up Roberts for a speedy wing run. Woolner and Knight made token gestures for the visitors but the one way traffic continued.

Barnes and Roberts missed good chances before an 'unintentional' goal gave Boro' a 5 goal lead with 20 minutes left. Hakan HAYRETTIN took a right wing throw from near the corner flag and, when Roberts returned the ball to him, fired over such a fierce cross that Laming got nowhere near it and the ball flew inside the far post! In the closing minutes, Barnes, Rose and Hurlock went close, but only Steve BARNES found the net, with 6 minutes left, Newby crossing, Petersen headed on and Barnes heading goalwards, Laming ending an unhappy evening by fumbling the ball into goal.
